EASY ACCESS, QUICK LEARNING
AXISVM Light is a free and simplified version of AXISVM that enables learning the basics of finite element modeling and analysis.
Models in AXISVM Light are limited in capacity and functionality. Maximum 40 line elements, 400 surface elements, and 20 load cases can be analyzed within a model. Reinforced concrete, steel, timber, and masonry design modules are not available in this version. Results can be displayed in graphical or tabular form.
License file is not required for AXISVM Light, therefore it can be used right away once installed.
PRESENTATIONS MADE SIMPLE
The AXISVM Viewer is a freely downloadable software which allows for viewing AXISVM models in software environments that do not have AXISVM installed.
The AXISVM Viewer Expert version offers report creating and printing features at a reasonable price.

TO THE COMMERCIAL VERSION
Due to changes in standard specifications, we recommend that you always use the latest version of the program.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1.
Download and install the update: AxisVMxxxx_Update_EU.exe (where xxxx stands for the current version and release – e.g. AxisVM164a_Update_EU.exe).
TROUBLESHOOTING
If AXISVM does not run due to a missing key file, check that the key file is copied into the application folder.
If AXISVM cannot find the protection key you may need to reinstall the Sentinel driver:
Step 2.
If you select a different destination folder than the original one you must copy the key file AxisVMxx_kkkk.key to the new destination folder as well (where xx stands for the version number, kkkk is the AXISVM protection key number – e.g. AxisVMX6_3905.key).
- choose Add/Remove Programs (or Programs and Features) from the Control Panel
- uninstall both Sentinel System Driver and Sentinel Protection Installer
- restart the computer
- reinstall Sentinel driver
- try to run the installed AXISVM again

Please note that the versions available here are no longer supported packages, and no further patches or updates will be provided.
We always recommend that you use the latest version of the program
due to changes in the standard specifications and continuous improvements made to the program.

Download and install the update: AxisVMxxxx_Update_EU.exe (where xxxx stands for the current version and release – e.g. AxisVM134s_Update_EU.exe)
Step 2.
If you select a different destination folder than the original one you must copy the key file AxisVMxx_kkkk.key to the new destination folder as well (where xx stands for the version number, kkkk is the AXISVM protection key number – e.g. AxisVM13_3905.key).

Download and install the update – AxisVM_rapidoxxxx_Update_EU.exe (where xxxx stands for the current version and release – e.g. AxisVM_rapido2r1b_Update_EU.exe).
Step 2.
If you select a different destination folder than the original one, you must copy the Rapidox_kkkk.key file to the new destination folder as well (where x stands for the version number, kkkk is the Rapido protection key number – e.g. Rapido2_3905.key).
TROUBLESHOOTING
If Rapido does not run due to a missing key file, check that the key file is copied into the application folder.
If Rapido cannot find the protection key you may need to reinstall the Sentinel driver:
- choose Add/Remove Programs (or Programs and Features) from the Control Panel.
- uninstall both Sentinel System Driver and Sentinel
- Protection Installer
- restart the computer
- reinstall Sentinel driver
- try to run the already installed Rapido sofware
If you have checked all of the above and Rapido still does not run, please contact us.
SENTINEL DRIVER DOWNLOADS FOR SOFTWARE PROTECTION
If you encounter a software protection error, download the appropriate Sentinel driver.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Depending on the type of protection you have ordered for your program, download and install the program at the link above.
Note that administrator privileges are required for installation.
To do this, right-click on the downloaded file and select Run as administrator.
TROUBLESHOOTING
FOR SUPERPRO KEYS
- select the Add / Remove Programs icon on the control panel
- remove the Sentinel System Driver and Sentinel Protection Installer entries from the list
- restart your computer
- reinstall the Sentinel Protection Installer
- start the already installed AXISVM program
For HL / SL /CL keys
- select the Add / Remove Programs icon on the control panel
- remove the Sentinel Admin Control Center from the list
- restart your computer
- run the InstallSentinelRuntime file from the AxisVM \ Sentinel LDK folder
- start the already installed AXISVM program

FOR SPECIAL SOLUTIONS
AXISVM, similar to other Windows applications, supports the Microsoft COM technology to access, control, and read data from external programs
The technology is particularly suited for the following tasks:
- to engage in 3D parametric design (AXISVM Grasshopper and Dynamo plugins)
- creating your own application using the PYTHON INTERFACE FOR AXISVM (PYAXISVM)
to link AXISVM to external software (e.g. Excel applications)
to enable users to develop custom applications that can control AXISVM
to run and analyze alternative design solutions within an iterative process
AXISVM API DOWNLOAD
AXISVM, like many other Windows applications, supports the Microsoft COM technology, making its operations available to external programs.
Any external program can get descriptions, read object properties or call the functions provided through the interface.
A program can launch AXISVM, build models, run calculations and get the results through the AXISVM COM server.
There are two ways to integrate external applications into the program:
- DLL modules placed in the Plugins folder of AXISVM are automatically included in the Plugins menu imitating the subfolder structure of the Plugins folder. See the AXISVM COM plugin section for more info on the subject.
- Similarly, DLL modules placed in the Addons folder of AXISVM are automatically loaded with AXISVM. An add-ons icon is shown on the AXISVM toolbar. See the AXISVM COM add-on section of the reference guide for more info on the subject.
ADD-INS TO BIM COLLABORATION
BIM (Building Information Modeling) is a digital storage and managing method for any information regarding a facility. A model of the structure consists of objects representing geometrical objects, their properties or logical connections.
A high-level BIM connection via IFC files or dedicated interfaces facilitates bidirectional data exchange with any BIM-based application (ArchiCAD, AutoDesk ADT, Revit, Nemetschek Allplan, Tekla Structures, etc.). By tracking the changes and updating the structure, the collaboration of civil engineers and architects is made easier.
Open BIM connection is carried out via the IFC file format linking the AXISVM model to architectural or structural design applications.
Closed BIM connections between AXISVM and Revit or Tekla Structures facilitates enhanced export/import functions such as importing static models instead of the architectural description, tracking changes and updating the other model.
AXISVM BIDIRECTIONAL DATA EXCHANGE REVIT ADD-IN
The Revit add-in provides for direct data exchange between Revit and AXISVM. The Revit add-in application exports the structural frame (with elements and loads) of the model and passes it on to AXISVM. During import, it builds the Revit model based on the structural frame exported from AXISVM. Throughout the workflow, the application tracks any changes to the model and allows only for the desired changes to be applied.
To install the add-in, the user has to run the Axisvm_Revitapi_Setup.exe. It is essential that no Revit software should be running during this time. Currently, the application supports Revit 2015 and later versions. If the installation is successful, the Add-Ins/External Tools menu on the Revit main menu will include the AXISVM Interface.
AXISVM BIDIRECTIONAL DATA EXCHANGE TEKLA ADD-IN
The Tekla Add-in provides for direct data exchange between Tekla and AXISVM. The Tekla add-in application reads the structural frame (with elements, loads) of the model and passes it on to AXISVM. During import, it builds the Tekla model based on the structural frame (with elements, loads and actual reinforcement) exported from AXISVM. Throughout the workflow, the application tracks any changes to the model and allows only for the desired changes to be applied.
To install the add-in, the user has to run the Axisvm_Teklaapi_Setup.exe. It is essential that no Tekla software should be running during this time. Currently, Tekla 2019 and later versions are supported. If the installation is successful, the Add-Ins / External Tools menu item on Tekla’s main menu will include the AXISVM Import & Export.

AXISVM POSSIBILITIES FOR PARAMETRIC DESIGN

The most commonly used parametric design software in structural design are Grasshopper and Dynamo.
These are often referred to as graphical algorithm editors that can be used to easily create parametric models.
GRASSHOPPER ADD-ON
The GrasshopperToAXISVM add-on makes feasible to export parametric models created in Grasshopper into AXISVM. The first step is make sure that AXISVM and Rhino/Grasshopper is installed on the computer, then copy the add-on into the Grasshopper Components’ Folder.
The GrasshopperToAXISVM add-on offers several components to define AXISVM model items from parametric cross-sections through structural members and domains to the link elements. The structural members and domains may be meshed. After definining load cases and load combinations, user may start finite element analysis (linear or nonlinear static, vibration, buckling or seismic) and create steel or timber design members. After starting the export, AXISVM opens automatically displaying the exported model.
One advantage of this interface is that it is easy to create parametric models and even templates in Grasshopper. For example, the parameters of a truss can be the span, the height, the layout, and the size of the cross-section. The other advantage is that Grasshopper offers a lot of geometric functions that enable the creation of complex 3D models.

DYNAMO ADD-ONS

The DynamoToAxisVM extension is compatible with Revit 2023. AXISVM X5R4 or higher is supported. The add-on is compatible with the Windows operating system only.
- open Revit
- on the “Packages” tab select “Search for a Package” from the drop-down menu
- wait until the loading is completed
- type “DynamoToAxisVM” in the search box
- press the “Install” button on the right component
- add the file “Interop.AxisVM.FW4” from the AXSIVM folder to the downloaded package folder

PYTHON INTERFACE FOR AXISVM (PYAXISVM)
The PYAXISVM project provides a high-level interface to AXISVM, making its operations available directly from Python. It is based on Microsoft’s COM technology and supports all the features of the original AXISVM COM type library, allowing you to
- build, modify, or analyse AXISVM models
- find solutions with iterative methods
- combine the power of AXISVM with third-party Python libraries
- build extension modules
In addition, PYAXISVM makes it possible to write clean, concise and more readable code by extending the type library with Python’s slicing mechanism, context management and more.
