This article does not contain all possible messages. It contains messages that can occur more or less frequently when using AxisVM.

AxisVM MESSAGES #

LINEAR STATIC ANALYIS - At the beginning of the calculation #

Question from AxisVM to the user if the selected function (e.g. “Delete”) should be carried out or about how to proceed
No support element defined. Continue analysis?

Cause

The analysis was started for a model without supports

Procedure

  • “Yes” starts the analysis (note the model stability)
  • “No” cancels the analysis

WARNING - Some surface loads overlap each other. List them?

Cause
In one or more loadcases, distributed loads with overlapping loads areas are defined

Procedure

  • “Yes” cancels the analysis and lists the affected loadcases and loads
  • “No” continues the analysis, overlapping loads are taken into account as they are defined

NODAL DOF - (Plate in plane X-Y) Set the nodal degrees of freedom automatically?

Cause
A planar system is analysed 

Procedure

  • “Yes” disregards all effects out the specified plane
  • “No” perform a spatial analysis
  • “Save model with this setting” avoids this message in future analysis

 

NODAL DOF - At certain nodes some degrees of freedom are constrained. In most cases these should be free for a 3D model. Continue analysis?

Cause
The nodal degrees of freedom have been changed manually or a model with saved nodal degrees of freedom has been modified. The settings do not correspond to the usual principles.

Procedure

  • Define all nodal DOF as “free” and restart the analysis
  • Automatic setting of the nodal DOF at calculation start (if required)

 

LINE HINGE ERROR - The model contains x lines with hinges to all connected surfaces. If you continue, these hinges will be deleted. If not, these elements and nodes will remain selected. Continue analysis?

Cause
Edge hinges have been defined on free edges of domains 

Procedure

  • “Yes“ deletes the redundant hinges and starts the analysis
  • “No” cancels the analysis and selects the incorrect hinges

 

LINE HINGE ERROR - Model contains x lines with hinges to all connected surfaces. If you continue, these hinges will be deleted. If not, these elements will remain selected. Continue analysis?

Cause
The model contains lines with the same number of connected hinges and domains

Procedure

  • “Yes” deletes the extra hinges and starts the analysis
  • “No” cancels the analysis and selects the incorrect hinges

Error. The selected function or calculation cannot be performed
AxisVM ERROR - No load define

Cause
The analysis was started for a model without loads. Analysis is not possible

Procedure

  • Define loads
  • Restart calculation

AxisVM ERROR - Seismic load cannot be generated

Cause
Static analysis is started for a model with seismic loads without results from a vibration analysis

Procedure

  • Run vibration analysis and restart static analysis

Save. Dialogs to save models and results.
ANALYSIS - Model is unchanged. Start the analysis?

Cause
The analysis was started, even though the results were valid. No changes were done in the model, which require a new analysis.

Procedure

  • “Yes” performs a new analysis
  • “No” cancels the operation
  • “Save as” saves the model in a new file and runs the analysis

LINEAR STATIC ANALYSIS - After the calculation #

ERROR - Node “x” has no stiffness in Y direction

Cause

Listed nodes have no stiffness in the direction indicated (nodes can move and/or rotate without resistance)

Procedure

  • Check model

WARNING - The model contains singularities

Cause

  • The model is unstable
  • Very large absolute coordinates are used

Procedure

  • Check model (releases, supports)

WARNING - Load calculation error. The sum of loads created from mesh-independent loads does not match the sum of original loads. The difference in surface loads is “X” kN

Cause

The sum of defined loads is not equal to the sum of support reactions

Procedure

  • Control the nodal DOF (all degrees of freedom as “free”)
  • Check model

 

ERROR IN THE ANALYSIS - Not enough disk space

Cause

The available space on the hard-drive is not sufficient to write the result file

Procedure

  • Free space on the hard disk
  • Simplify model (e.g. larger mesh size)
  • Save model on a local drive (instead of a network drive)

FILE SAVE ERROR - The file cannot be opened for writing

Cause

The result file (*.axe) cannot be saved because it already exists and is set as read-only

Procedure

  • Change attributes of the result file (write protection)
  • Delete result file

NON-LINEAR STATIC ANALYIS #

NON-LINEAR ELEMENTS - The model includes elements with non-linear characteristics. First order analysis ignores some parameters of the non-linear characteristics. Start a non-linear analysis to take into account the non-linear parameters. Continue with first order analysis?

Cause

  • A linear static analysis was started in a model with non-linear element properties.

Procedure

  • “Yes” continues the analysis and ignores the non-linear properties
  • “No” cancels the analysis

Error. The selected function or calculation cannot be performed
SOLUTION ERROR - Excessive element distortion during deformation x.

Cause

Large difference of a beam deformation between two increments. The analysis is interrupted, since the results are not reliable.

Procedure

  • Increase number of increments (analysis parameters)
  • Check model

SOLUTION ERROR - Too large rotation increment at node x. Specify greater number of increments to run this calculation.

Cause

Large difference in the deformation of a node between two increments. The calculation is stopped, since the results would not be reliable.

Procedure

  • Increase number of increments (analysis parameters)
  • Check model

SOLUTION ERROR - No convergence in maximum iterations

Cause

After reaching the maximum number of iterations (analysis parameters) no convergence was reached

  • The analysis converges too slowly
  • The analysis does not converge

  • Check model (stability under non-linear conditions)
  • Increase the maximum number of iterations (analysis parameters)
  • Increase number of increments (analysis parameters)

VIBRATION #

SOLUTION ERROR - The specified number of eigenvalues is close to the mass degrees of freedom of the model

Cause

  • The calculation method used, causes greater mathematical errors in the last few modes.

Procedure

  • Decrease number of modes calculated (analysis parameters)
  • Increase number of masses (e.g. generate line mesh, refine mesh size)

SOLUTION ERROR - System matrix is not positive definite

Cause

The model is unstable. The vibration analysis doesn’t return clear results

Procedure

  • Check model

SOLUTION ERROR - Not enough mass degrees of freedom to obtain the requested number of eigenvalues

Cause

The model does not have as many vibration modes as set for calculation

Procedure

  • Decrease number of modes calculated (analysis parameters)
  • Increase number of masses (e.g. generate line mesh, refine mesh size)

SOLUTION ERROR - No eigenvalue found within the tolerance limit

Cause

The vibration analysis does not produce any results

Procedure

  • Increase “maximum iterations” (analysis parameters)

BUCKLING #

Cause

The model does not have as many buckling shapes as set for calculation

Procedure

    • Decrease the number of buckling shapes calculated (analysis parameters)
